LG has announced it is to reenter the tablet market, with the oddly sized LG G Pad 8.3 given a somewhat understated formal unveiling.

Officially announced via a YouTube based teaser video, LG has confirmed that it will launch its latest tablet offering later this year, with the new LG G Pad lining up as an 8.3-inch, device that will sit between Apple’s iPad and iPad mini offerings. It is expected the tablet will be powered by Google’s Android OS.

“As exemplified by our recently introduced LG G2 smartphone, we are very focused on developing innovation that reflects the needs and desires of global consumers,” Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said.

He added: “The LG G Pad 8.3 is the perfect form factor that delivers an exceptional viewing experience and we’re very proud to make it part of our G Series brand.”

Offering few concrete details on the upcoming tablet, LG has suggested that the 9.7-inch iPad and 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab range are all too big for the portable need of modern consumers, with its new offering claiming to be small enough to fit in your pocket.

Lambasting its rivals, the LG G Pad 8.3 teaser video has confirmed that the new tablet will launch with a Full HD display and syncing options with the company’s Smart TVs in tow.

Promising further details in the near future, LG has stated that the LG G Pad 8.3 will offer “unparalleled features that set a new level of tablet performance.”

The company added: “LG G Pad 8.3 is expected to give LG a solid footprint in the tablet space. LG G Pad 8.3 will be available in target markets in the fourth quarter with prices to be announced at launch time.”
